Testimonials

Ron MacLean

I met Alex Lytwyn half a lifetime ago when he was a boy.  After a speech in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, we went to his parents’ home and sat in the kitchen with beer, pumpernickel bread and kubasa (Ukrainian sausage - Manitoba and Saskatchewan spelling)

Alex has cerebral palsy, which limits control of muscles and movement. I knew that the brilliant child sitting at the table would face barriers. I also know that humans are malleable. The human soul on fire is the next great path. During my visit, we toured the town and I discovered Winnipegosis’s claim to fame. A fuchsia coloured fire truck. They now have two of these pink life saving vehicles. As we drove around the town, I thought to myself, I will never forget the fuchsia firetruck or Alex, the kid Confucius.

We’ve remained friends ever since, and Alex continues teaching me with his writing, applied counselling, fundraising, disability advocacy and even guide dog training lessons. Confucius said, “Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace.”

In the event of actual fire, call for the truck, but if you are dealing with the fire inside a human being, reach out to Alex Lytwyn.

Please accept this letter of support to have the legendary Alex Lytwyn join the motivational speaking circuit.

Alex is a passionate advocate who uses his personal experiences of living with cerebral palsy to challenge systemic barriers and uplift and inspire others.  Channeling his voice and advocating for change by writing articles for various news outlets, arranging meetings with political leaders, and being involved with the Locked Out of Life Campaign are just some of the ways Alex strives to eliminate barriers to full and equal participation for people with disabilities.

He provides a unique perspective on what it is like living with a disability in a rural community with limited supports and resources.  Alex has a genuine ability to connect with others, and people want to learn more about him.   This has led to several organizations reaching out to Alex requesting him to speak at various events.  He brings an immense level of grit to everything that he does.  He will never settle for anything less than what is fair and will continue to strive towards an inclusive and accessible society for everyone.

I highly recommend Alex as a motivational speaker.   He offers unique insights and leaves his audience feeling hopeful and inspired. He would be an excellent contributor to the motivational speaking circuit.

Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit,

On Thursday, September 24th; the Parkland Unit hosted Alex Lytwyn to talk about Disabilities.

Now in its 28th year of operation, the Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit, located in Dauphin, is a training site for the University of Manitoba, Department of Family Medicine.  Its aim is to prepare physicians with knowledge, skills and attitudes for rural family practice.

Local resident of Winnipegosis; Alex Lytwyn presented a well-developed power point presentation to the 11 trainees and some faculty/staff.     The purpose of the session was to meet one of the educational objectives within the family medicine curriculum.   Alex was able to discuss his background since childhood and showcase his challenges and successes to date.    Further, during this Covid-19 pandemic and self-isolation, Alex was able to share his experiences which many could be feeling during this time.

By completing this session via MB Telehealth, we were able to welcome a guest that might otherwise have had more challenges to accommodate in person (ie. Cost of transportation, etc.).

Interaction was very good and residents asked some very important questions.    Alex’s zest for life and ability to overcome challenges faced, left the group in awe of his journey.

The feedback on this day was overwhelmingly positive and it is hoped to continue to nurture this relationship in the future.   Alex has much knowledge to share and we very much enjoyed this presentation.
