Get Your Act Together
There are segments of the population in society, that are being discriminated against simply because their IQ is too high.
Today, society tells us all to be inclusive and that everyone no matter what deserves the same opportunities in life. I am here to tell you that the physically disabled are being forced to be put in dangerous situations because, the provincial government are playing favorites.
For years I’ve been dealing with:
Discrimination
Deteriorating physical and mental health
Not being able to provide for myself
Depression
Emotional abuse
Anxiety, PTSD
This is all because of the province’s lackluster attitude, towards the strictly physically disabled.
Due to me only have staff come into my home to help me certain times of the day. Every aspect is controlled down to the second. From when I get up to what and when I eat, my life is not mine.
I’m forced to not have a job because I don’t have enough help. I’m going to be at the mercy of the government finically till I’m seen more then a burden on the system.
The fact of the matter is that in Manitoba, if you have an intellectual disability the government cares for a person. This is because intellectual persons are covered under the Adults Living with An Intellectual Disability Act.
I find it real odd how the act used to have a different name. It used to be called the Manitoba Vulnerable Persons Act. Even though I do not have an intellectual disability, I am just as vulnerable if not more vulnerable, then the people who the act actually covers.
Then in what seems to be under the cover of darkness, the name of the act was changed to Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability. I don’t know why I’m just questioning the acts name change.
If you’re just physically disabled with no intellectual disability, a person is left out in the cold with no hope of a better future.
The governments answer to all of my lack of care issues, is for me to move into a PCH.
Why would a young, healthy individual like myself want to move some where, that is designed for an older generation, and at the same time receive less care?
The bottom line is it all comes down the almighty dollar. One day, it would be nice if my trails and tribulations, did not have a price tag, rather were given empathy and consideration.
A famous response to asking for extra staffing dollars is “why don’t you get your family or friends to help you?” Family and friends should not be depended on for a disabled person’s entire life.
Being disabled, receiving the proper help should be, a “guarantee.” Why are their two different “standards of equality”, for disabled Manitobans? Shouldn’t we all have the same opportunity to prosper?
I need my quality of life, increased to a 24-hour level of freedom.
Disabilities sometimes do not allow, a person to live as free as they would like. The government should see that “disability-type”, doesn’t play any role of the severity of an affliction!
All I want, is the right to control my life!
